November 15th – Kristen Kauffman on Characterization

by Jeannie on November 12, 2017

Kristen’s presentation will focus on “Characterization,” plus she will provide an informative review of some of the benefits of National Novel Writing Month (NaNoWriMo). For those who are not familiar with the term: You’ll surely love learning about some of the hidden benefits NaNoWriMo develops to improve one’s writing skills. (The November meeting will be held on the 15th at the Prescott Public Library in the Founders Suite beginning at 6:30 p.m.)

Kristen graduated from Goddard College in 2012 and is an instructor of creative writing at Yavapai College. Her poetry has been published in the Summer 2016 edition of Mused, and her Steampunk story called “The Steamstress’s Daughter” was the feature piece in the September 2014 issue of The Rejected Writer. She was also a creative nonfiction contributor in the Bookshop Book, she has had poetry published in The Pitkin Review and Threshold Magazine, and has two novels published: Just Pretend (2007) and Breakable Rules (2008).

Professional Writers of Prescott invites writers of all ages and levels (from beginner to published) to attend any of their meetings.

PWP BOARD ELECTIONS. A reminder that the November meeting is also the election of Board Members for 2018. This is usually a quick formality at the beginning of the meeting.

CHRISTMAS PARTY – WEDNESDAY, DECEMBER 13TH
The Christmas Party is barely a month away as it will be on Wednesday, December 13th.  The plans are similar to last year.  Bring a wrapped book for the book exchange (at the end of the party, take a book from the table of books and see what you get!)  Bring finger food if you wish.  As with last year, this is an opportunity to write a five minutes story/essay/poem about Christmas and read it aloud.  The only requirements are that it be under 500 words and/or five minutes (whichever comes first.)  The real requirement is to come and have fun, relax and socialize with your fellow authors.  While the party is for members only, every member can bring a guest.

PWP RENEWAL FOR 2018

November reminds us all how soon we’ll be in a new year.  It’s time to think about renewing with PWP.  It’s still only $20.00 for the entire year.   PWP offers payment of dues via the electronic PayPal on our website.

HOSPITALITY THANKS – Many, many thanks to Della Roehrig for her work as Hospitality Hostess, especially her home-baked goodies!

PWP needs volunteers! If you have a few hours a month available, please consider sharing them with us. Contact Marian Powell (mepowell@cableone.net) for more information. Also consider taking on a Board position for the following membership year.
