Welcome to PWP!

Who we are.

Professional Writers of Prescott, also known as Prescott Writers, is a network of published and non-published writers and editors who live in the “Quad-Cities” – Prescott, Prescott Valley, Chino Valley, and Dewey/Humboldt – and in the Verde Valley – Sedona, Cottonwood, Camp Verde, Cornville, and Clarkdale – in Yavapai County, Arizona.
Among our 75 – 125 annual members are writers of all persuasions and genres: poets, novelists, short story writers, journalists, freelancers and essayists, memoirists and creative nonfiction writers, technical and grant writers, and writers of fiction and nonfiction for children and young adults. We aim for the highest expression of our craft and are dedicated to sharing our expertise with less experienced writers. See the PWP Meet Yourself feature for more information about our emerging and experienced writers.

What we do.

PWP sponsors monthly speaker programs, member networking meetings, and critique groups. We co-sponsored a writing workshop with Sharlot Hall Museum at the annual Prescott Book Festival in 2003-2007, and work with the Prescott Public Library to help sponsor author workshops and book sales events. Many of our members sponsor local booksignings, readings, and lectures, as well as other book-related celebrations in Arizona and outside the state. Our First Annual PWP Writing Contest debuted as a statewide contest in May 2008, and the 2010 PWP Writing Contest opened to all writers.

PWP’s community outreach activities include mentoring young writers, sponsoring the annual Agnes Franz Award for creative writing students at Yavapai College, appearing at local school district Career Day events, judging entries in the annual Whipple Voices Writing Project sponsored by the local Veteran’s Administration, volunteering for work detail at local book and community arts events, and supporting local literacy activities.

“This is my living faith, an active faith, a faith of verbs: to question, explore, experiment, experience, walk, run, dance, play, eat, love, learn, dare, taste, touch, smell, listen, argue, speak, write, read, draw, provoke, emote, scream, sin, repent, cry, kneel, pray, bow, rise, stand, look, laugh, cajole, create, confront, confound, walk back, walk forward, circle, hide, and seek. To seek: to embrace the questions, be wary of answers.”
Terry Tempest Williams, naturalist and writer
